BCA – Bachelor of Computer Applications

Open to every stream, project-driven throughout, and our most placement-active programme.

BCA is the programme students most often ask about, and the one where what you do outside the timetable determines the outcome. The syllabus covers C, Java and Python, data structures, databases, software engineering and web development, and closes with a final-semester live project built for a regional firm or a real civic problem.

The laboratories are open beyond timetabled hours, and the coding club runs weekend problem-solving sessions and the annual 24-hour CodeAgrasen hackathon. Students who use those hours build a portfolio; students who treat the degree as attendance do not. We say this to every incoming batch on the first day.

Who Can Apply

Pass in 10+2 from any stream with a minimum of 50% aggregate. Mathematics is not compulsory.

Admission is granted strictly on the merit of the qualifying examination, following the reservation policy of the Government of Haryana. There is no capitation or donation charge of any kind.

Questions

Frequently Asked About This Course

Yes — this is the most common question we get, and roughly a third of each batch is in exactly that position. The Mathematics for Computing paper in the first year is designed for students without a maths background. Programming ability correlates with practice, not with your 10+2 stream.

C in the first year, Java in the second, Python as a skill course, and HTML, CSS, JavaScript and SQL through the web and database papers. The point is not the count of languages but that you can build and debug something working in at least two of them.

Not necessary, but genuinely helpful from the second year onwards. The computer centres have open practice hours and licensed software, and students without a laptop manage — they simply have to be more disciplined about using lab time.

Entry developer, testing and support roles, mostly with firms in Mohali, Chandigarh and the NCR, plus regional IT and edtech companies. Salary at entry is modest; the trajectory over three years depends almost entirely on the portfolio you build during the degree.

BCA if you want to be employable as a developer sooner and prefer project work. B.Sc. Computer Science if you intend to do M.Sc. or MCA and are comfortable with mathematics.
